Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 2025
1. Introduction
UNJARGON (“we”, “us”, “our”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal data. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have when using our Service.
Product notice (no legal advice): UNJARGON highlights jargon and provides plain-language explanations and suggestions. We are not a law firm, and we do not provide legal advice or create an attorney-client relationship. For legal advice, consult a licensed attorney. See our Terms & Conditions for the full disclaimer.
2. Data We Collect
- Account Information: Name, email address, password (hashed).
- Uploaded Content: Documents you submit for analysis (PDF or DOCX), and derived artifacts we generate (e.g., highlighted/annotated PDFs, jargon lists, extracted text for processing).
- Usage & Billing Data: Pages processed, timestamps, and usage counters needed for quotas and invoices.
- Device & Log Data: IP address, browser/OS, event logs, and error/crash reports.
- Human Verification: Signals from Cloudflare Turnstile (e.g., IP, user agent, challenge outcome) to prevent abuse.
- Cookies & Analytics: Session cookies; optional analytics cookies (e.g., Google Analytics) if enabled.
3. How We Use Your Data
- To provide the Service: analyzing your document to highlight jargon and produce plain-language explanations/suggestions.
- To authenticate your account, enforce limits, and bill you (via Stripe).
- To maintain and improve reliability, quality, and security (debugging, monitoring, abuse prevention).
- To communicate transactional updates (e.g., receipts, password resets) and Service announcements.
Legal bases (for EEA/UK users): performance of a contract (providing the Service), legitimate interests (security, product improvement), and consent where required (e.g., non-essential cookies).
4. Data Retention & Deletion
You control retention. Your documents and outputs are kept for as long as your account remains active, unless you delete them. You can delete individual documents at any time from within the app, or delete your account to remove associated data.
We may retain minimal records needed for legal/accounting purposes (e.g., invoices) after account deletion. Short-lived backups and logs may persist briefly for integrity and security.
5. Service Providers (Processors)
We rely on reputable providers to run UNJARGON. These vendors process data on our behalf under appropriate agreements:
- Cloud hosting & storage: e.g., AWS (such as S3) to store uploaded files and generated outputs.
- Payments: Stripe to process subscriptions and payments (limited billing data is shared).
- AI processing: An AI service provider (e.g., OpenAI API) to transform uploaded content into explanations and suggestions. We instruct our provider to act as a processor and not use your content to train their models. They may temporarily retain logs for abuse prevention and safety.
- Human verification / anti-abuse: Cloudflare Turnstile helps prevent automated abuse.
- Analytics (optional): If enabled, we may use privacy-respecting analytics to understand aggregate usage.
6. Data Security
- Encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest for stored documents and outputs.
- Access controls, least-privilege credentials, and audit logging.
- Document sanitization steps (e.g., safe PDF rendering) and abuse prevention measures.
No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your data.
7. Cookies & Tracking
We use essential cookies for authentication and session continuity. We may use Google Analytics or similar tools to understand aggregated usage; where required, we request your consent for non-essential cookies. You can manage cookies via your browser settings.
8. Your Rights
- Access: Request a copy of your personal data.
- Correction: Update inaccurate information.
- Deletion: Delete documents at any time; you may also request account deletion.
- Export: Use the in-app export or request a machine-readable copy.
To exercise your rights, contact us at [email protected]. We will verify your identity before fulfilling requests.
9. Children
The Service is not intended for individuals under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe a minor has provided data, contact us to request deletion.
10. International Transfers
We may process data in the United States and other locations. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) to protect your data.
11. CCPA/State Privacy Disclosures
We do not “sell” your personal information as defined by applicable state privacy laws. We share data with service providers solely to operate the Service.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will appear here with an updated “Last updated” date. Your continued use of the Service signifies acceptance of the revised Policy.
