UNJARGON Terms & Conditions
Last updated: August 2025
1. Agreement to Terms
By accessing or using UNJARGON (the “Service”), you agree to these Terms & Conditions (the “Terms”). If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
No legal advice. UNJARGON highlights jargon and provides plain-language explanations and suggestions. We are not a law firm, we do not provide legal advice, and using the Service does not create an attorney–client relationship. For legal advice, consult a licensed attorney.
2. The Service
The Service accepts PDF and DOCX files, analyzes text to identify complex terms and phrases, and returns explanations and suggested plain-language alternatives. You can optionally download an annotated PDF and a jargon list.
We may use third-party processors to run the Service (e.g., cloud hosting such as AWS/S3, payments via Stripe, human-verification via Cloudflare Turnstile, and AI inference via providers such as OpenAI API). See our Privacy Policy for details.
3. Eligibility & Accounts
- You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract.
- You agree to provide accurate registration information and to keep your credentials confidential. You are responsible for activity under your account.
- Notify us promptly of any unauthorized use or security incident.
4. Your Content & License to Us
“Your Content” means the documents, text, and data you upload, and the outputs generated from them for you. You retain ownership of Your Content.
You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, process, analyze, and create outputs from Your Content solely to provide and improve the Service to you (including quality, reliability, and security). We do not sell Your Content.
You represent and warrant that you have all rights necessary to upload and process Your Content and that it does not violate applicable law or third-party rights.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Upload illegal, infringing, or malicious content (including malware).
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service, or bypass security or rate limits.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or misuse the Service or underlying models.
- Use the Service to provide legal advice or to misrepresent outputs as legal review.
- Use automated means to scrape or extract data except via documented APIs (if any).
6. Plans, Trials, Billing & Auto-Renewal
- Plan details and pricing are published on our Pricing page. Some plans include monthly page allowances; overages may use add-on tokens.
- Trials (if offered) are one-time per customer and convert to paid unless you cancel before the trial ends.
- Payments are processed by Stripe. You authorize us to charge your payment method for recurring fees, taxes, and overages until you cancel.
- Cancel any time from your account settings; cancellations take effect at the end of the current billing period.
- Except where required by law, fees are non-refundable. We may change prices by posting updated pricing; changes apply in the next renewal term.
7. Suspension & Termination
We may suspend or terminate access for violations of these Terms, suspected abuse, non-payment, or to protect the Service and users. You remain responsible for fees incurred before termination.
8. Intellectual Property; Feedback
We own all rights in the Service, including software, UI, documentation, and branding. You may not use our marks without consent.
If you provide feedback, suggestions, or ideas, you grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free license to use them without restriction.
9. Privacy & Data Handling
Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect and how we use it (including processors such as AWS/S3, Stripe, Cloudflare Turnstile, and AI providers like OpenAI API). By using the Service, you consent to our data practices.
Retention. You control retention: delete documents at any time; deleting your account removes associated content subject to brief backup/log persistence and legally required records (e.g., invoices).
10. Availability & Changes
We aim for reliable availability but do not guarantee uptime. We may modify or discontinue features with or without notice. We’ll make reasonable efforts to notify you of material changes.
11. Disclaimers
No legal advice. Outputs are generated by algorithms and may be incomplete, inaccurate, or out of context. The Service is intended to assist with clarity, not to replace professional judgment. Always review original documents and seek legal advice where appropriate.
As-Is / As-Available. THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
12. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, UNJARGON AND ITS SUPPLIERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, OR USE.
OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO US FOR THE SERVICE IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE LIABILITY.
13. Indemnification
You will defend, indemnify, and hold harmless UNJARGON from and against claims, damages, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from Your Content, your use of the Service, or your breach of these Terms.
14. Governing Law & Venue
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, excluding its conflict-of-laws rules. You consent to the exclusive jurisdiction and venue of the state and federal courts located in New York County, New York.
15. Miscellaneous
- Severability. If any provision is unenforceable, the remainder remains in effect.
- Assignment. You may not assign these Terms without our prior consent; we may assign to an affiliate or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
- Entire Agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service.
- Notices. We may send notices electronically to your account email.
16. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date will change when we do. Your continued use of the Service after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
